Things that happen when friends that are not jewish live with you

Posted by [info]gordond on 2008.07.06 at 23:03
1.they use your meat utensils for dairy food and oops! now it has to be submerged in boiling water!

2.they put giant boxes in your room. actually that has nothing to do with religion but it happened.

3.they open and close random windows. also nothing to do with religion.

I believe in Ten.

I really shouldn't read some of the discussions about the finale, they are upsetting meeeee!!!!
Oh, all right, I'll cut for JE spoilers...chill!!! It is, however, mostly Ten gushing, so be warned! )

Seriously though, if you get the chance and you're looking for an amazing seven hours of television, rent John Adams. I knew like two things about Adams before I watched the series (Alien & Sedition Acts and his dying words) but after watching it... man! So good.

Also, HBO should mount a Thomas Jefferson mini-series and just use Stephen Dillane. I loved his quiet, too cool for school portrayal of TJ.

people with super early fireworks

Why, people? The idea of fireworks is not just that you make a loud, irritating noise. You are supposed to also have some visual goodness.

Journey's End -- a reaction...

Current Mood: indescribable
I'm actually gonna type this out *before* reading anyone else's reaction -- I usually read all the spoilers and such up until the day of the episode, then I avoid them on my own till after the show, without anyone needing to warn me or hide anything [which I'd never ask of the fandom anyway]...but before this turns into a rant [the same rant I've ranted many times over, and will do so again], on to the reaction!

Politely warned and cut for the upcoming spoilage of the thing... )

After the fact videos!

Posted by [info]capearce on 2008.07.04 at 22:53
One thing that's super frustrating about having a kid is that sometimes they'll do something AMAZING and then you'll get out the video camera to capture the moment... and then they just won't oblige you by repeating whatever it was that so impressed you.
This happened today- Elliot climbed up on top of the foot locker we use as a coffee table but then stubbornly refused to get up there again when I got out the camera.

...and in this one, he's pretty much on the trunk, he just kind of gives up at the end and goes for a drink.

This one, at least Elliot worked with us.

1. What drink wakes you up best in the morning?
Usually orange juice, although sometimes we buy grape juice and I like that too.

2. During the day, what do you drink to keep going?

I drink a lot of water and, if I've remembered to brew it, iced tea. I've sort of cut out the iced tea lately as I don't ever show any restraint with it. I'll drink half a pitcher over the course of a day and then end up awake at 3 A.M.

3. Do you drink the recommended 8 glasses of water per day? Why/why not?
I do, and I think it's because I don't drink a lot of other stuff. I don't drink soda. Occasionally I'll have a glass of milk, but it's pretty rare now that Ellen and I are living together (She buys skim milk, I prefer that my milk doesn't taste like white-colored water). So I drink 8 glasses a day, but not for any health reasons.

4. What are the ingredients of your favorite mixed drink? (Doesn't have to be alcoholic!)
I haven't been drinking mixed drinks for awhile, but when I was still, y'know, going out and having a good time, I liked Jack and Coke.

5. Are you a coffee drinker? How do you take your coffee, if so?
I do not drink coffee. I like the smell, but I don't like the taste.

My Doctor Who Fandom history, and why I love the Tenth Doctor so much...

Oh, I am so anxious about the finale -- even though I'm desperately hoping that certain events have RED HERRING written all over them, you know, I'll have to see it before I can totally calm the heck down! So...what is it about the Doctor's tenth incarnation that's pulled me in so irretrievably?

Allons-y! )

A couple of little sketches from a comic I'm doing, probably once a week if my collaborator does his homework.

it was CLASSIC American Gladiators, mind you.

gossip girl anachronisms

Posted by [info]gordond on 2008.07.02 at 22:56
So the entire Gossip Girl book series was published between 2002 and 2007 yet all of the action in the books took place over the course of exactly one year. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, even if the series were meant to start in the late summer of 2003, it would end  near the end of summer in 2004.

Therefore, the new Gossip Girl series, which is meant to start immediately after the previous, should start at latest in the summer of 2004.

Therefore, there should not be such glaring errors such as: stating that a character is carrying around a dog-eared copy of a book that doesn't come out until 2006, or using technology that doesn't come out until 2007 or 2008.

There were plenty of errors that started happening right around when the series started being ghost written instead of being written by the original author. Now there seem to be plenty more.

I guess the only way to enjoy it at all is to just pretend that the year in which the books are set keeps changing depending on the book you read. How completely daft. Then again, I'm about to turn 31 and I am reading a book meant for a teen girl. Go figure.
